Malachi’s Wisdom

Opening Verse:

Proverbs 4:7 (KJV) – “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Introduction:

In our spiritual journey, understanding the past and preparing for the future are crucial. Today’s devotional invites us to walk with Malachi, a wise elder, as he imparts timeless wisdom to his younger self, guiding us in a journey of self-discovery, truth, and growth.

Devotional Story:

In a place where time mirrors the seasons, wise old Malachi, with hair as white as winter snow, encountered his younger self at a mysterious crossroads. This younger Malachi, full of spring’s energy and dreams, listened intently as his elder self shared life lessons.

Older Malachi spoke of his prideful mistakes and the humility and forgiveness he learned from them. He emphasized a period of life like a winter storm, where letting go of old beliefs was essential for spiritual growth. With urgency and wisdom, he told his younger self about the importance of learning from these experiences, embracing God’s truth, and guiding others on their spiritual paths.

What This Means:

Our life is a continuous journey of learning from our mistakes, growing closer to God, and guiding others. Embracing truth and seeking forgiveness are key to our spiritual development.

Think About This:

1. What past mistakes can you learn from to guide your future?

2. How can embracing God’s truth transform your life?

3. In what ways can you be a mentor to others in their spiritual journey?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I walk through life’s crossroads, grant me the wisdom of Malachi. Help me learn from my past, embrace Your truth, and guide others in Your ways. May I grow in humility and understanding, and be a light to those around me. Amen.

Closing Verse:

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Straight Path

Opening Verse:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

Introduction:

In our journey through life, we often encounter crossroads and winding paths that seem daunting and complex. Yet, the simplicity of Jesus Christ shines as a beacon, guiding us to a path of righteousness. This devotional explores how Jesus simplifies our spiritual journey, debunking the lie that following God and walking away from sin is an impossible feat.

“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 11:3

Devotional Story:

Imagine a traveler at a crossroad, bewildered by the numerous paths before him. Each path whispers promises of success, yet they are entwined with thorns and pitfalls. This traveler represents us, and the crossroad symbolizes life’s decisions. The enemy, like a cunning fox, whispers lies, suggesting that the path of righteousness is fraught with impossibilities. But Jesus, like a loving shepherd, calls out with a voice of truth and simplicity.

One day, this traveler encounters Jesus, who offers a different path – one that appears narrow and less trodden. Jesus explains that this path, though it may have its challenges, leads to true life. He promises that by trusting in Him, the complicated twists and turns of life will be straightened.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 8:1

What This Means:

Jesus simplifies our walk with God. He does not promise a journey free of challenges, but He assures us that with Him, the complexities of life become manageable. Jesus embodies truth and simplicity, and following Him means letting go of the deceptions that complicate our lives.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Think About This:

1. How have you experienced the complexity of life’s choices?
2. In what ways have you felt the enemy’s lies complicating your walk with God?
3. How can embracing the simplicity of Jesus alter your approach to life’s decisions?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the simplicity found in Jesus Christ. Help me to trust in Him, to see through the lies of the enemy that make my path seem impossible. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, guiding my steps, revealing the sins that entangle me, and leading me on the path of righteousness. Thank You for the promise of being a new creation, holy in Your sight. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Faith Notes:

In this devotional, we discover the liberating truth that in Christ, our paths are made straight, and our walk with God is simplified, revealing the lies of the enemy. With the Holy Spirit within us, we are guided, transformed, and made holy in the sight of God.

Closing Verse:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

The Wine of Renewed Faith

27. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

28. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. (Matthew 23:27-28 KJV)

Introduction:

In a world where outward appearances often overshadow inner truths, the journey for genuine spiritual connection can be fraught with trials. Martin, a faithful man, finds himself struggling within the walls of his own church, a place where judgment and hypocrisy seem to replace the teachings of unconditional love and acceptance. This narrative explores the transformative power of listening to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, even when it leads you away from familiar places. It serves as a vivid reminder that God’s grace knows no boundaries and that true communion with Him can happen in the most unexpected settings. Through the intertwining lives of Martin and Ethan, a young boy sensitive to the Spirit’s leading, we witness how divine connections can restore faith, offer new beginnings, and bring peace that “passeth all understanding” (Philippians 4:7, KJV).

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7, KJV).

Devotional Story:

Martin sat disheartened in his church, grappling with the verbal mockery of the elders, the very people who should be exemplifying Christ’s love. Around him, he felt a cloud of pretense, a gathering of judgmental faces masked by artificial smiles. “he thought bitterly. With a heavy heart, Martin knew it was time to leave.

Guided by a divine unrest, he wandered until he found another church, one with an aura of simplicity and authenticity. As he stepped inside, he sensed a compelling pull in his spirit, as if God Himself was saying,

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, KJV).

Though he uttered no words, his heart felt the need for communion with God.

A young boy named Ethan, who had been assisting the deacons in cleaning up, felt the Holy Spirit stop him in his tracks. Ethan looked up and saw Martin. He knew what he had to do, a silent understanding filling him that bore the mark of Romans 8:14 (KJV):

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14 (KJV)

Ethan approached Martin, chalice in hand. “Would you like to partake in communion?”

Martin noticed that there was no bread, only wine. Yet, he felt a profound sense of completeness as he took the wine, echoing the words of Jesus:

“This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20, KJV).

The moment was filled with a divine peace, resonating with Philippians 4:7 (KJV):

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

Overwhelmed with spiritual fulfillment, Ethan later gathered his loved ones, exclaiming, “Rejoice with me, for the Holy Spirit has moved in mysterious yet profound ways today! A man who felt lost and judged found divine peace and communion in our humble sanctuary.” And there was great rejoicing, capturing the essence of Luke 15:10 (KJV):

“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” Luke 15:10 (KJV)

Conclusion:

Life may lead us through churches filled with judgment and hypocrisy, but God’s voice will always guide us to where we truly belong. The absence of bread in the communion symbolizes that even when some elements of our spiritual journey seem missing, the substance of God’s love and grace remains ever abundant.

“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV).

Listening to the Holy Spirit’s guidance allows us to find profound peace and communion in the most unexpected places, reminding us that God is everywhere, ever willing to give us a second chance at spiritual fulfillment.

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4 KJV)

A Journey from Deception to Deliverance

The Vision

In my dream, a young man in a simple white suit stood beside a beautiful yet deceptive woman. They were isolated in a wild, open field, with no one else around. The man appeared to be in a trance, as if under some sort of spell by the woman.

They walked together toward a hill by a flowing river. When he caught sight of the river and a plain brown basket full of brightly colored balloons to his right, he abruptly snapped out of his daze. Realizing the woman’s deceitful intent, he cursed her and broke off the nearly-made vow of marriage she had tried to trick him into.

He jumped into the basket, and the multi-colored balloons lifted him into the sky. Floating away, he passed over the river and rolling green hills. Along the journey, he noticed a dead tree branch with six faded pink balloons tied to it. However, he kept his focus forward, confident that he was heading toward a better place filled with friends and family.

Interpretation

In the dream, the young man in the simple white suit represents a soul striving for purity, yet vulnerable to deception. The woman symbolizes temptation and the wicked allure of the world. They find themselves alone in the wilderness, much like Jesus was tempted in the desert. (Matthew 4:1-11)

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[
c]

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]

11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Matthew 4:1-11

The man’s initial enthrallment with the woman evokes the deceptive allure that worldly temptations often hold. Yet, he wakes from his trance, resisting the temptation, just as James 4:7 instructs,

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7

His waking from the trance is akin to spiritual awakening.

The River and The Basket:
The flowing river beside them can be likened to the “river of the water of life”.

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. symbolizing God’s eternal provisions and blessings.“

Revelation 22:1

The basket with multicolored balloons signifies the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, as described in Galatians 5:22-24.

” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
Galatians 5:22-24

Breaking Free:

When the man jumps into the basket, it represents a decision to break free from sin and choose the gifts of the Spirit. He is lifted up and carried away, akin to being ‘born again’ (John 3:3) and carried by the grace of God.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 3:3

The Faded Balloons:

The dead branch with the faded balloons that he passes symbolizes the dead branches in our life that need be cut by our Holy Gardner in order for use to bear fruit.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the Gardner. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

John 1:1-2

Conclusion:

This journey from deception to deliverance underscores the power of turning away from temptation and toward God. The unknown but promising destination the man floats toward symbolizes the heavenly reward that awaits those who stay true to their faith.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”

1 Peter 5:8-9
