The Heart of Obedience

Inclined Slopes

Introduction

In life, we often encounter paths that seem like inclined slopes, challenging yet essential for our spiritual growth. These slopes represent the various trials and tribulations we face.

Devotional Story

Consider the story of Jonah, who was called by God to deliver a message to Nineveh. Instead of obeying, Jonah found himself on a metaphorical inclined slope, fleeing in the opposite direction. His journey took a dramatic turn, leading him into the belly of a great fish. This slope, steep and treacherous, became a place of reflection and transformation for Jonah.

A Calling to Faithfulness

“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” – Matthew 1:20 KJV

Introduction

In a world where confusion and doubt can cloud our judgment, the story of Joseph stands as a beacon of unwavering faith and obedience. A carpenter of humble means, Joseph’s life took an unexpected turn when he was entrusted with a divine responsibility.

Devotional Story

Joseph, betrothed to Mary, found himself at life’s crossroads when he discovered that Mary was with child. His initial response was to quietly end their engagement, to avoid public disgrace. However, God had a different plan.

Embracing God’s Grace in the Midst of Storms

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.'” – 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NKJV)

Introduction:

The story of Jonah is a remarkable account of a man who faced tumultuous trials and tribulations. His journey, marked by storms and a great fish, holds valuable lessons for us about God’s grace. Just as Jonah was swallowed by a whale but ultimately saved by God’s grace, we too can find refuge in God when we submit to Him in the midst of life’s storms.
