Only God Can Do That

Opening Verse

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
Luke 1:37 (KJV)

Introduction

There are moments in life when we face challenges so overwhelming that no human effort can seem to solve them. These are the times when we must remember that there are some things that only God can do. His power is beyond anything we can imagine, and when He steps in, the impossible becomes possible.

Devotional Story

There was once a small church that had struggled for years with financial difficulties. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t seem to make ends meet. They prayed, fasted, and sought help from various sources, but nothing changed. The situation grew dire, and the church was on the brink of closing its doors.

One day, an elderly woman who had been a member of the church for decades stood up during a service. With tears in her eyes, she shared a dream she had the night before. In the dream, she saw the church filled with people worshiping and praising God, and there was a great sense of joy and peace. She said that in the dream, God told her, “I will provide.”

The congregation was moved by her words and felt a renewed sense of hope. They decided to gather that evening for a prayer meeting, asking God to do what only He could do. As they prayed, there was a knock on the church door. A man they had never seen before walked in and handed the pastor an envelope. Without saying a word, he turned and left.

The pastor opened the envelope and found a check for a large sum of money—enough to pay off all the church’s debts and even start new ministries. The congregation was amazed and overjoyed. They knew without a doubt that only God could have orchestrated such a miraculous provision.

What This Means

This story is a powerful reminder that there are things in our lives that only God can do. When we reach the end of our resources, God is just beginning to show His. He is not limited by our circumstances or our lack. When we place our trust in Him, He is faithful to provide in ways we could never imagine.

What are the impossible situations in your life right now? Have you tried to solve them on your own? It might be time to step back and let God do what only He can do. Trust in His timing, and remember that nothing is too hard for the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that with You, all things are possible. Help us to trust in Your power and to rely on Your provision in every area of our lives. May we always remember that You can do what no one else can. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus Healing the Roman Soldier’s Servant

Opening Verse

“When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
Matthew 8:10 KJV

Introduction

In the New Testament, we find numerous examples of Jesus’ healing miracles. One particularly profound instance is when Jesus healed the servant of a Roman centurion. This story is not just about physical healing but also about faith and humility.

Devotional Story

A Roman centurion, an officer in the Roman army, had a servant who was very dear to him and gravely ill. Hearing about Jesus, the centurion sent some Jewish elders to Him, asking for His help. The elders pleaded earnestly with Jesus, saying that the centurion loved their nation and had even built their synagogue.

As Jesus set out towards the centurion’s house, another message arrived from the centurion. He expressed that he felt unworthy to have Jesus come under his roof. Instead, he believed that if Jesus simply spoke the word, his servant would be healed. He explained his understanding of authority, acknowledging Jesus’ supreme authority over illness.

Jesus was amazed by the centurion’s faith. He turned to the crowd following Him and declared that He had not found such great faith in all of Israel. Jesus then spoke the word, and the servant was healed at that very moment, even though Jesus never physically entered the centurion’s home.

What This Means

This story illustrates the power of faith and the authority of Jesus. The centurion’s belief in Jesus’ power was so strong that he trusted in a miracle without Jesus being physically present. It reminds us that Jesus’ power is not confined by space or proximity. Our faith, too, can move mountains and bring about miracles, even from a distance.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of the centurion’s faith. Help us to trust in Your power and authority over every situation in our lives. May we always come to You with humility and confidence, believing that nothing is impossible for You. Strengthen our faith and help us to witness Your miraculous works in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Unexpected Explosion

Introduction

Fireworks can bring joy and celebration, but they can also be dangerous if not handled properly. Today, we explore an incident where a firework malfunctioned but the people involved were miraculously unharmed.

Devotional Story

There was a time when a group of friends decided to celebrate with some fireworks. They had an old launcher, one that had seen many celebrations over the years. As they lit the firework, expecting a beautiful display in the sky, things took a turn for the worse. The launcher, due to its age and wear, split in half. The firework exploded not in the sky, but on the ground, right where the friends were standing.

It was a terrifying moment. The sound was deafening, and the explosion scattered sparks and debris everywhere. The friends fell to the ground, bracing for the worst. Yet, when the smoke cleared, they were astonished to find that none of them were hurt. Despite the chaos, they were safe.

What This Means

This incident is a powerful reminder of God’s protection over us. Just as the friends were kept safe despite the dangerous situation, God watches over us and keeps us from harm. It may not always be in such dramatic fashion, but His protection is ever-present. When we trust in Him, we can find peace even in the midst of the storm.

The Axe Head Reclaimed

Opening Verse

 “But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.” – 2 Kings 6:5 (KJV)

 

Introduction

In our lives, we often encounter moments that seem insurmountable, challenges that appear as deep and as lost as an axe head in a river. The story from 2 Kings 6 reveals a profound truth about God’s care and intervention in our lives, even in what might seem like trivial matters.

 

Devotional Story

The sons of the prophets were expanding their living quarters, and in the process, a man’s borrowed axe head fell into the water. Distressed over the loss, especially since it was borrowed, he sought Elisha’s help. Elisha, moved by the man’s plea, cut down a stick, threw it into the water, and miraculously, the iron axe head floated to the surface. This act was not just about recovering a lost tool; it was a demonstration of God’s power and His concern for even the smallest details of our lives.

 

What This Means

The floating axe head is a testament to the fact that no problem is too small or too insignificant for God. He is concerned with every aspect of our lives, including those moments when we feel we’ve lost something valuable or when we’re facing a task that seems impossible. The miracle performed by Elisha is a reminder of God’s ability to recover and restore what was lost or seemed beyond reach.

How often do we refrain from bringing our ‘small’ troubles to God, thinking they might be too trivial for His notice? This story encourages us to remember that God is interested in every detail of our lives. He is willing to intervene in ways that defy our understanding, turning our impossible situations into testimonies of His power and grace.

Lord, help us to remember that no concern is too small for Your attention. Teach us to trust in Your power to act in every situation we face, knowing that You are always with us, ready to offer Your help and guidance. Amen.
