God Is in Control, but Be Prepared

Opening Verse:

“Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”
—Proverbs 3:25-26 (KJV)

Introduction:

Life is unpredictable, and the world around us often feels out of control. Whether it’s storms, unrest, or unexpected challenges, we might be tempted to worry. But as believers, we are reminded that God is always in control. Our task is to be ready for what may come but to trust fully in the Lord.

Devotional Story:

A farmer lived in a land where powerful storms often swept through. Though the storms were fierce, the farmer never worried. He kept his farm prepared—his crops covered, his animals sheltered, and his house sturdy. He did everything he could to be ready, but his trust was not in his own preparations. He trusted in God to protect him and his family. Each time a storm approached, he prayed, knowing that no matter the outcome, God was his refuge.

Similarly, we must prepare for the challenges life throws at us, but our faith should rest in God’s power, not our own. God has promised to be our confidence and protection.

What This Means:

Even though life can be full of unexpected storms, both literal and metaphorical, we don’t need to live in fear. We are called to act wisely and be prepared, but we must always remember that God is our ultimate protector. When we face life’s challenges head-on with pride and stubbornness, we often get knocked down. The Bible teaches us to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand. Just as ducking under a powerful wave can protect us from its force, humbling ourselves before God shields us from life’s hardest blows.

The Lord Is a Stronghold

“The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7, KJV)

Introduction

In times of trouble, it’s easy to feel alone and lost. But the Bible reminds us that God is always with us, a stronghold and a source of goodness.

Devotional Story

Once there was a young woman named Leah. She lived in a small town surrounded by mountains. Life was usually peaceful, but one year, a fierce storm struck the region, causing landslides and flooding. Leah’s home was in the path of the destruction.

As the storm raged on, Leah and her family took refuge in a sturdy old church on higher ground. The church had stood for centuries, weathering many storms. Inside, Leah found comfort in the familiar surroundings and the company of her fellow townspeople.

One evening, as the winds howled outside, the pastor read Nahum 1:7 aloud. “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” Leah felt a wave of peace wash over her. She realized that just as the church was a physical stronghold against the storm, God was her spiritual stronghold against all of life’s troubles.

The Unexpected Explosion

Fireworks can bring joy and celebration, but they can also be dangerous if not handled properly. Today, we explore an incident where a firework malfunctioned but the people involved were miraculously unharmed.

Devotional Story

There was a time when a group of friends decided to celebrate with some fireworks. They had an old launcher, one that had seen many celebrations over the years. As they lit the firework, expecting a beautiful display in the sky, things took a turn for the worse. The launcher, due to its age and wear, split in half. The firework exploded not in the sky, but on the ground, right where the friends were standing.

It was a terrifying moment. The sound was deafening, and the explosion scattered sparks and debris everywhere. The friends fell to the ground, bracing for the worst. Yet, when the smoke cleared, they were astonished to find that none of them were hurt. Despite the chaos, they were safe.
