Be a Good Steward of Your Money

Opening Verse

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)

Introduction

God entrusts us with resources to manage wisely, not only for ourselves but to help others. Faithful stewardship means making wise choices with what He provides, so we’re ready when He calls us to bless someone in need.

Devotional Story

A man once struggled with finances, often spending carelessly and living paycheck to paycheck. When his friend faced a sudden crisis, he wanted to help but didn’t have the funds. Feeling the weight of missed opportunities, he sought God’s wisdom. From that day on, he chose to budget carefully, live within his means, and set aside a portion to help others. Eventually, he was able to be a blessing when someone else needed it, thankful for the change in his heart.

Golden Rule

Opening Verse

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12, KJV)

 

Introduction

In our daily lives, we interact with many people. How we treat them speaks volumes about our character and our faith. Jesus summarized a key principle of righteous living in one simple yet profound statement: Treat others as you would like to be treated. This rule, known as the Golden Rule, is a guide for living a life of kindness, compassion, and empathy.

 

Devotional Story

John, a small-town grocery store owner, always had a kind word and a smile for his customers. He treated everyone with respect, whether they were a regular or someone passing through town. One winter, a heavy snowstorm hit, and many people were stranded. John opened his store to those in need, providing warmth, food, and a place to stay until it was safe to travel. His generosity was remembered long after the storm passed, and his store became a symbol of community and care.

 

John’s actions reflected the heart of the Golden Rule. He didn’t help others because he expected something in return; he did it because it was the right thing to do. By putting himself in the shoes of those in need, he was able to show true Christian love.

The Balance of Wealth and Spiritual Focus

“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.” – 1 Timothy 6:9 (KJV)

Introduction:

Wealth and possessions, in themselves, are not inherently wrong. Scripture does not condemn being wealthy or having material things; it’s the love of money and overconsumption that can lead us astray. The challenge for believers is to enjoy God’s blessings without letting them distract us from our spiritual journey and relationship with God.

Devotional Insight:

The Bible offers wisdom on managing wealth without allowing it to consume us. 1 Timothy 6:17 instructs,

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.”

This passage acknowledges that God provides abundantly for us to enjoy but warns against placing our trust in wealth over God.

Overconsumption diverts our focus from God and can lead to placing our identity and security in material possessions rather than in our Creator.
