Introduction

How many times have we tried to assemble something without looking at the instructions? We may have the best intentions, thinking we know what we’re doing, only to find out we’ve put everything together wrong. In the same way, we sometimes try to navigate life without reading the instructions that God has provided for us in His Word, the Bible.

Devotional Story

A man once bought a new bookshelf, eager to put it together. Confident in his own abilities, he tossed the instructions aside, thinking, “I can do this myself.” But as he worked, things weren’t lining up. He struggled with pieces that didn’t fit and screws that seemed too many. Frustrated, he finally gave up and went back to the instruction manual. Only then did he realize how easy it was when he followed the step-by-step directions.

Our lives are much like this. We often try to figure things out on our own, but without God’s guidance, we can make a mess. The Bible is our instruction manual for life, showing us how to live in a way that pleases God and leads to blessing.

God has given us clear instructions in His Word. We are not left to wander through life blindly. The Bible teaches us how to live righteously, how to love others, and most importantly, how to follow Jesus Christ. Through the Storm with God

Introduction

Life can often feel like a journey through unpredictable weather. Sometimes, we find ourselves caught in storms we never anticipated. Yet, with God by our side, we can navigate through any storms.

Devotional Story

Imagine you’re riding a motorcycle, enjoying the open road. You didn’t check the weather forecast, though tools to do so were readily available. Similarly, God provides us with the Bible as a tool to understand and prepare for life’s seasons, but we often neglect it.

As you ride, dark clouds gather, and heavy rain begins to pour. Forced to pull over, you seek shelter by the roadside. You had the tools to check the weather and avoid the storm, but you refused to use them. Now, as you wait for the storm to pass, it seems to continue endlessly, as if the cloud is stuck over you.

This scenario is like our spiritual journey. Sometimes we choose not to use the tools God has given us, such as His Word, and we find ourselves caught in life’s storms. If you remain in the same spot, waiting for the storm to clear, you might stay stuck under the rain for much longer than necessary. However, if you trust in God’s guidance and keep moving forward, you’ll soon discover that the storm has ceased. Just a few hundred feet ahead, the skies are clear, and the journey continues in peace.

What This Means

This story teaches us two vital lessons. First, we should utilize the tools God has given us, especially His Word, to navigate life’s challenges. Imagine walking through a dense forest, unsure of the path ahead. The darkness seems overwhelming, and every step feels uncertain. Suddenly, you stumble and fall, feeling the sting of scrapes and the ache of bruises. In that moment of pain and confusion, you remember the flashlight in your backpack. Turning it on, the light pierces the darkness, revealing the path before you and allowing you to tend to your injuries.

“But the days of Noah were forty days on the earth, and the waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.” – Genesis 7:17 (NKJV)

In many cultures and religions, numbers often carry symbolic meanings. In the Bible, the number 40 is of particular significance. It typically represents periods of testing, trial, or probation.

Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness. And as our verse above tells us, it rained for 40 days and nights during the flood in Noah’s time.
