Like a Tree

Opening Verse

“For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
– Jeremiah 17:8 KJV

Introduction

In our daily lives it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges. However, God’s Word offers us hope and assurance. Jeremiah 17:8 provides a powerful image of stability and fruitfulness, even in difficult times.

Devotional Story

Imagine a tree standing by a river, its roots deeply embedded in the moist soil. No matter how intense the heat or how prolonged the drought, this tree remains green and fruitful. This imagery from Jeremiah paints a vivid picture of a life anchored in God. Such a life is not easily shaken by the trials and tribulations that come its way.

Consider a farmer who plants a tree near a river. He knows that the tree will have a constant supply of water, ensuring its growth and productivity. Similarly, when we root our lives in God’s Word and trust in Him, we can thrive regardless of our circumstances.

What This Means

Being like a tree planted by the waters means drawing strength and nourishment from a reliable source—God. When our faith is deeply rooted in Him, we are sustained through every season of life. Our leaves remain green, symbolizing life and vitality, and we continue to bear fruit, reflecting the good works and character that come from a strong relationship with God.

Think About This

Are you feeling the heat of life’s pressures or the drought of spiritual dryness? Reflect on your source of strength. Are your roots deeply planted in God’s Word? Take time to nurture your relationship with Him, knowing that He is the source of your stability and fruitfulness.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us to be like the tree planted by the waters. May our roots grow deep in Your Word, drawing life and strength from You. In times of heat and drought, let us remain green and fruitful, trusting in Your provision. Amen.

Closing Verse

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.”
– Jeremiah 17:7 KJV
