The Weight of Silence

Golden Rule

Introduction

In our daily lives, we interact with many people. How we treat them speaks volumes about our character and our faith. Jesus summarized a key principle of righteous living in one simple yet profound statement: Treat others as you would like to be treated. This rule, known as the Golden Rule, is a guide for living a life of kindness, compassion, and empathy.

 

Devotional Story

John, a small-town grocery store owner, always had a kind word and a smile for his customers. He treated everyone with respect, whether they were a regular or someone passing through town. One winter, a heavy snowstorm hit, and many people were stranded. John opened his store to those in need, providing warmth, food, and a place to stay until it was safe to travel. The Attraction of Sin is Like Flies

Introduction

We live in a world filled with temptations and distractions that constantly seek to draw us away from the path of righteousness. The allure of sin can be likened to flies buzzing around, persistent and annoying, always trying to find a way to land.

Devotional Story

One summer afternoon, I watched as a group of children played outside. They were having a great time until they noticed a swarm of flies attracted to the food they had laid out for a picnic. Despite their best efforts to shoo the flies away, the insects kept coming back, undeterred. It was a constant battle to keep the flies from landing on their food.

Similarly, sin is always lurking around, looking for an opportunity to land in our lives. Like the flies, it’s persistent, annoying, and seemingly everywhere. Even when we push it away, it often comes back, trying to wear us down.

What This Means

Sin’s attraction is powerful and ever-present, much like flies that are drawn to anything they can feed on. Just as flies can contaminate food and make it unhealthy, sin contaminates our lives and separates us from God. Never Lost to Jesus

A shepherd had a hundred sheep and one of them went astray. He left the ninety-nine and went into the wilderness to find the one that was lost. He searched diligently, not giving up until he found it. When he finally did, he joyfully put it on his shoulders and brought it home. This story reminds us of how Jesus pursues us when we wander off.

The Hiding Place

Recognizing God’s Signs

 “For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.”  – Acts 13:27 KJV

 

Introduction

The people of Jerusalem, along with their leaders, failed to recognize Jesus as the Messiah. Despite hearing the prophets’ words every Sabbath, they still played a part in fulfilling those very prophecies by condemning Him.

 

Devotional Story

Picture a man who receives letters from a loved one, filled with promises of a coming visit. He reads each letter with excitement but, when the loved one finally arrives, he does not recognize them and shuts the door. This man missed the very signs he had eagerly awaited.

 

In a similar way, we often hear God’s word and see His signs, yet fail to recognize His work in our lives. The people of Jerusalem heard the prophecies about the Messiah, but when Jesus came, they did not see Him for who He was. Their preconceived notions blinded them to the fulfillment of God’s promises right before their eyes.

We, too, can miss God’s signs if we are not spiritually attentive. God’s voice speaks to us through His word, through circumstances, and through the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit. There was a farmer who toiled tirelessly on his land. Year after year, he planted his seeds and waited for the harvest. Some years were bountiful, while others were plagued with drought or pests. Despite the hardships, the farmer never lost faith. He believed in the divine timing of God and trusted that each season had a purpose.
