Opening Verse
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
Proverbs 18:10 KJV
Introduction
Many people try to stand strong on their own until the pressures of life rise around them. But God gives us a place of safety that never moves. His name is not just a title; it is His power, His character, and His faithfulness. When everything else shifts, He remains the same.
Devotional Story
A woman stood near the edge of a coastline where she often walked to clear her thoughts. On this day the tide was moving faster than usual, creeping higher with every wave. Couples sat nearby under umbrellas and children laughed as they ran along the sand. No one seemed to notice how quickly the waters were climbing.
She stepped back toward the walkway, watching the water spill into places it had not reached before. She looked around, expecting others to react, but everyone continued in their own small world. Nearby, a man fumbled with his belongings as the water brushed against a bag he had dropped moments earlier. A small girl tugged on her mother’s arm, pointing at the rising tide, but her mother shook her head as if nothing was wrong.
The woman’s heart tightened. She sensed danger, but she could not force anyone to see it. She moved quickly up the stone steps leading to higher ground. From there she watched the beach vanish under the push of the tide as people finally scrambled to safety.
Standing above the chaos, she felt the weight of one truth settle inside her: the only real safety is found before the danger arrives, not during it. That day, she learned what it meant to run to God before the waters rise.
What This Means
God offers a refuge that does not collapse when the world shakes. Proverbs 18:10 tells us that His name is a strong tower. A tower is built for moments of danger. It stands above the flood, the noise, and the panic. Those who run to Him are not barely surviving; they are safe.
Running to His name means trusting His character. He is holy. He is merciful. He is faithful. He is strong. When life changes instantly, He remains steady.
Think About This
Are you waiting until life overwhelms you before turning to the Lord?
Is there something rising around you that you have ignored?
Are you standing near danger when God is calling you to higher ground?
Prayer
Lord, I come to You as my strong tower. Teach me to run to Your name before trouble rises. Keep my heart alert, my mind steady, and my steps near You. Deliver me from false securities and lead me into the safety that only You provide. Help me warn others with love and courage, pointing them toward the shelter found in Christ alone. Amen.
Closing Verse
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1 KJV
